Today's countdown features attraction that were great in their day, but could badly use an update or refurbishment to get them back to their glory days. Please note that I don't include attractions that should be removed (that's a different countdown). Let's go with the Top 5 Attractions that Need an Update!
5. Mission: SPACE (Epcot)
In 2003, it was pretty high tech, but 11 years later it's a bit dated. Taking a page out of Star Tours' book to feature multiple missions and an updated post show would go a long way...
4. Universe of Energy (Epcot)
This show is very mid 90s as it is. Updating the show with up to date show scenes and new hosts would help a lot. Honestly, I'd gut the building and turn it into a pavilion with multiple attractions, but that might be just me...
3. Peter Pan's Flight (MK)
Yeah I know it's one of MK's most popular attractions, but cardboard cutouts and mediocre blacklight based effects are very dated by today's standards especially with how the rest of Fantasyland now looks. Modern effects, updated animatronics and a refreshed queue would do the trick...
2. DisneyQuest (DTD)
Ok, I kinda cheated with this one since it's not one attraction. I've done my own armchair imagineering of DQ, but without getting into that, I'd practically gut the place and remove all of the dated VR attractions. Update and replace with modern VR (Oculus Rift) and updated tech would improve DQ from a place to play old arcade games to much more than that.
1. The Great Movie Ride (DHS)
Like I said in my Under Appreciated Attractions Countdown, GMR is an icon in bad need of an update. A new script, upgraded show scenes, upgraded special effects and a new finale would bring back that spark (and the crowds) to DHS's icon.
That's all for this countdown! We wrap up the week tomorrow with the most overrated attractions!
